I wanted to offer a brief reflection on the biblical idea of Sabbath. In the Old Testament, we often isolate Sabbath to a 24-hour period of physical rest, while spiritual rest is usually associated with the New Testament. In this post I point out a pattern in Genesis that shows that God’s intention for rest has been consistent from the beginning of time.

Several of you sent in questions before we began the Torah Portions study, so here is a Q&R to get us started. These questions range from issues like: Does Genesis teach that women are lesser than men? Why does my Bible sometimes say “God” and other times “LORD”? Did Israelites think Yahweh had a wife? Hebrews 10:1 says that the law is a shadow. Traditionally, this has been taken to mean the law is empty and goes away in our walk with Christ. In this post I explore the concept of shadows and how this passage is actually affirming the lasting value of all Scripture in our faith.
